Are you planning to enter any CUNY college as a regular degree student? If so, you will be required to take assessment tests in reading, writing and math before you can enroll in any credit courses. This course prepares you to take the ACT essay test and the ACT/Asset Reading test. For the essay, you will learn how to address an issue, and organize and develop your essay according to the scoring criteria that your readers will be looking for. For the reading test, you will work with practice tests that are very similar to the real thing. You will also work on finding main ideas, making inferences and isolating details, which are important elements of the test. After this course, you will get more comfortable with taking timed tests and you will be able to build more effective arguments. Offered for a Complete grade only.

This course will help you build the skills and strategies needed to succeed on the iBT TOEFL. Special emphasis is placed on the independent and integrated tasks of the TOEFL, including reading, listening, writing and speaking. Gain confidence and improve your test-taking skills and strategies through practice questions and diagnostic tests. Instruction takes place in both classroom and computer lab settings. You need to place into levels 5-10 in the ESL program to take this course.
